Bald Barbie

So it was really time for me to give my office a ‘hoover’/vacuum depending on where you are from and I noticed my Princess Belle Disney doll sitting on a shelf.

Belle Disney doll

She was sitting out of the way as the glue in her hair had deteriorated and her hair was snapping off. There was a little bit on her dress so I thought I’d just give it a quick hoover.

NO! Do not hoover your dolls if they have a breaky hair glue issue. This is what will happen! (The hoover sucked up half of her hair right to the scalp, so I quickly grabbed my phone to capture the other half in a vine video).

The thing is I was a little sad when the first load of hair disappeared but then I thought well she was going to either have a re-root or wig at some point so now or never. I might even leave her bald!

Has this ever happened to one of your dolls? I know there have been a lot of issues with the glue used in some dolls heads. This is a Disney Mattel doll and it hasn’t happened to any of my other dolls.

My Favourite Childhood Barbie

I’m not sure if I’ve written about this on my blog already somewhere or on a forum, so here I go again.

This is the story of my favourite childhood Barbie!

Day to Night Barbie was one of the first Barbie dolls I remember owning. It was back in the 80′s when everything was the way it was supposed to be, I had no worries, a safe home, the best parents, lots of brothers and sisters and toys that obviously made an impression.

I loved everything about Day to Night Barbie, the soft ‘suede’ material of her work pencil skirt, that would magically change into a hot pink tutu for her amazing date with Ken.

Her briefcase and contents would keep me occupied for hours, the calculator and the way it was specially made to fit in her hand. The pink sticker on the white briefcase and how it fitted everything in so perfectly.

Day to Night Barbie

Day to Night’s white hat with pink trim, I used to love getting her ready for work and plonking that on her ‘big’ pouffy blonde hair.

I don’t have this doll anymore, infact I don’t have any of my original childhood dolls, but I would consider buying her again to keep on display.

Who was your favourite childhood Barbie? Do you still have her or have you re added her to your collection as an adult?

NaBloPoMo Barbie Let’s Go Party

NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog Posting Month and it’s basically to get bloggers posting everyday. I took part in this via my blog ‘Cuteek‘ last month (which is back from the dead yay!) and found myself blogging more, with more stories and actual content.

NaBloPoMo May 2013

Each month there is a topic and prompts for each day, and this months theme is comfort. I don’t know how I’m going to adapt the posts for my Barbie blog but the first couple are about stuffed toys, so I thought it would be apt to write about them here. If you want to sign up your blog for NaBloPoMo via BlogHer you can do until 5th May so be quick.

Barbie gets social :)

So I just wanted to make a little update on Pimp My Barbie, since the move to WordPress, there have been some big changes. There may possibly be some images too large for blog posts in some places or things missing, but please bare with me.

If you look at the top of the site now you can see all the places to connect with me, there are so many social networks, sometimes it’s hard to keep up, so in this post I will leave links of where you can find me and my dolls when I’m not blogging.

I’m probably missing something out here, but I will add it to the list if I remember!

Instagram is one of my favourite places to post lately and I love seeing what other doll collectors are posting. This morning at breakfast I was pinning like a demon on Pinterest. There are so many cool things on that site it’s amazing. I can tell I’m going to have so many boards already!

I really need to make a blog post and take photos of my newest doll, Ursula from the Disney Villains collection. Now I have no excuses as I have a new iPod touch 5th gen and it takes the most wonderful photographs and HD video, so expect some videos of my collection too!

Happy Birthday Ken

Barbie has just celebrated her birthday and now it’s Ken’s turn! On 11th March Ken Carson celebrates which means the couple must have had a fun weekend.

I don’t have many Ken dolls, I guess I should photograph them and maybe add a couple to this post. I fondly remember the ones from the 80′s and 90′s with the plastic molded hair. I do adore my Jack Sparrow Ken doll, who is boxed along with another I forget, it could be Jewel Secrets Ken or something?

Here is my ‘She said Yes’ Ken and Barbie set from when Ken and Barbie got back together a couple of years ago.

Happy Birthday Barbie

So, Barbie turned 54 years old yesterday and I’m a little late in wishing her a Happy Birthday on here but I did post an instagram of my Sparkle Eyes Barbie holding a carrot cake.

Sparkle Eyes Barbie

The carrot cake is from one of my Littlest Pet Shop Blythe pets and Barbie’s dress is one that I have yet to identify. Although my Sparkle Eyes Barbie’s hair is a bit dull, I just love the retro style with full fringe and mullet and the fact that she has her original earrings and ring after all this time.

Barbie looks good for her age, don’t you think? Birthday Wishes Barbie is the latest Barbie Collector release which uses the Model Muse body. It’s a nice gift for someone but not one that will be making it into my collection. Here is the commercial:

Did you treat yourself to a new Barbie to celebrate her birthday this year?

What the Blog?

A horrible thing happened this week, my main blog Cuteek was deleted! Yep gone! To cut a long story short, I received an email from Blogger saying there had been some strange activity on my account and that Cuteek had been deleted for violation of terms and conditions, that my blog fell into the spam category.

Oh how I cried. It might seem silly crying over a blog, but when you have put work, brain cells and thoughts and more work into something, for it to just disappear…

This happened on Wednesday, after completing the appeal form from the Blogger dashboard I was told to wait 2 business days for a staff member to review my site and it would possibly be enabled again. Here I am on Sunday evening, still no answers and wondering. It also said that if I hadn’t heard after 20 days then it’s likely my blog won’t be coming back.

I don’t think I can wait 20 days, really. I’m hoping to have a lovely email waiting for me in my inbox tomorrow saying Cuteek is back from the dead and in full Zombie form. 6 years of work have gone into it. I’m wondering what to do, that’s why I thought I’d post in here to vent a little. Can’t really think about much else….

Has this ever happened to you? What did you do?

Blythe Zombie

I have a slight problem…

It’s my Littlest Pet Shop Blythe, who I call Blondie, she is infected with a flesh plastic eating disease! I’m not exactly sure how she contracted the disease, but the Apocalypse is near!!!

Maybe, or maybe I just used the new ZombiU app on my doll and she turned out like an extra from a Chucky movie!

Get the free ZombiU app here

Halloween Barbie 2012

I’m still working on my Halloween OOAK for this year which is not a Barbie this time, but a My Little Pony, but I was just checking out the official Halloween Barbie for 2012.

Barbie Halloween 2012 Doll

It seems she has some cute pink streaks in her hair and a not so scary witch dress and hat but great if you collect Barbie witches. She is available from Entertainment Earth for $13.99 if you are thinking of buying her, I do love her hat!

Do you collect Halloween Barbies or do you make your own? Do you prefer your Barbies to be smiley or scary?

My Little Pony Halloween Custom

It’s October! Woohoo, my absolute favourite month of the year and time to begin my project, this year I’ve chosen My Little Pony Rarity to customize for Halloween! I began by carefully removing her eye paint and symbol with some cotton buds dipped in nail polish remover.

The next step was to research and decide exactly who or what I’m turning this pony into. I’m a huge Tim Burton fan, so it’s safe to say she will be in that category, please take guesses in the comments on who you think she will be at the end of her makeover?

This is my first My Little Pony custom, so wish me luck! I’ve just started looking for colours for her base as she will no longer be white! I’ll use this same post to update on Rarity’s progress.

Update 1: Just waiting for one coat of paint to dry, so I can do the other side, the colour is just how I wanted it and I will post more photos when her base paint job is complete.

Update 2: I’ve painted the whole pony, I think she only needs one coat of blue so I will leave it there. Someone on Facebook has already guessed correctly!

Update 3: I have given the pony overnight to dry and started on her mane, it’s currently hot pink, which looks great with the base paint but I’m changing it to pillar box red! Photos to follow :)

Update 4: Thanks to my trusty red Sharpie, my pony now has a beautiful red mane! I’m happy with the outcome and I’ve left it alone for quite a few hours to dry out. Maybe I will do a youtube video of how to colour doll and pony hair with Sharpies, it’s quite easy and fun to do. I may pop some brown ‘lowlights’ into the mane with a brown pen, just to give some definition but I will see how that goes.

The next update is going to be a total giveaway on her new character, if you hadn’t already guessed. I’m doing some deep thinking about her new symbol or whether to give her some clothes instead.

Update 5: I started painting on the white of the eye, but it seems my white paint was a bit lumpy and so I’m not as happy with that as I thought, but it’s the first time I’ve customized a My Little Pony, learning as I go. Next I used a sharp pencil to mark out the rest of the eye and the eyelashes, using google images as a reference. Can you guess who she is yet?

Sorry if you have been waiting to see the finished product, although I did tweet and instagram this pic, the final product – I managed to get inspiration and finish her on Halloween. Introducing Sally Stitches Pony:

I used black Sharpie to make her stitches and eye paint, red Sharpie for her lips and I chose to draw a symbol on her hip instead of dressing her. I drew Jack Skellington, (the object of her desire) on Spiral Hill with Sharpie and a little bit of yellow highlighter. All in all it was a lot of fun to make this custom Pony, I don’t think I will be waiting until next Halloween to make another and maybe I will do another one soon.

If you have any questions about this custom and what I used please ask away! On a side note, the blue ‘paint’ I used for the body (nailpolish) is still going strong after a month, was quite worried it would deteriorate but so far so good! :)
