How To – Dye Barbie Doll Hair

Despite what you think, there are ways to dye Barbie’s Hair, if the condition of your dolls hair is pretty good but you are not too keen on that generic blonde look then try using Sharpie pens. It saves re rooting and you can pick some wild colours, I’ve even used Sharpie’s to make pink streaks in my own hair! (I’m an adult, don’t do this without parental advice, Sharpie is permanent pen)

I will update on this post asap with a photo of a ‘Sharpie doll’, however I wouldn’t try it on a special doll, use some flea market/car boot Barbie to test it out first.

I have used Sharpie pen to change the colour of this My Little Pony’s hair from pink to red, check it out.

I use Sharpies or their Bic “Mark it” counterpart. The Bics are nice because they bleed more, but you have to make sure you start a little above the root if you want a spotless finish.

Putting scotch tape around Barbie’s hairline on her face will keep the color off of it. Going in sections can be tedious, but the outcome is nice.

Love your blog. It’s nice to ‘meet’ a fellow Barbie Artist. :o )
